Cook was already trying to fight the disease of scurvy, feeding his crews the foods of watercress sauerkraut and orange extract to stop and heal the crew of them being affected by scurvy (A disease caused by not getting enough vitamin C). James Cook was the first captain who had stopped the disease by just giving fresh fruit.
Still suffering from the lack of Vitamin C, cook died with the disease by fighting the Natives on 'sandwich island'. |
